The lights and camera were focussed on Young Sibling Carers this half term at Honeypot. A photoshoot was arranged through All Wales Forum to celebrate this often hidden group of children who have their own extraordinary dreams and hopes for their futures.
Three young Carers spent the day at Severn farm ponds in Welshpool learning about photography and taking photos to add to a new photo collage display board. Montgomeryshire Wildlife trust arranged the day which was led by a local artist Linda James.
‘I feel I really achieved something’ said one proud young Carer at the end of the day.
We are delighted to be starting to use Eventbrite for our trips and event bookings. We are running our first pilot for the WCD Family Fun Day on 10th August. Our intention is to make the information much easier to share and link to, and to make the booking process smoother and paper-less where possible, which will be better for participants booking on, as well as for the team in the office!
Of course for people who can’t access Eventbrite we are retaining other ways to book – for example via the phone. We have just launched the first pilot today so we will be learning and adjusting our processes over the coming weeks. We hope you are as excited as we are about this new development! Watch this space.
Welshpool Library is displaying a beautiful felt banner and appliqué wall hanging made by Powys Young Carers at a recent series of Increduble Arts Workshops organised by Arts Connection. The Increduble exhibition is on until the end of July.
Just to let you know, everyone at Credu publishes blog posts to share what we are up to – and each author writes their posts in the language they usually use. So that is why some blog posts will be English and some in Welsh, regardless of the website language selection you have chosen. This enables us to keep our news freshly published and regularly updated. Thank you for your understanding!
“Its difficult being a Young Carer in School”
“Tell one person that’ll make it better!” The group replied as one.
Young carers school committee at Presteigne Primary is now meeting every term to discuss how they feel about being a carer in school and how their role affects school life. There have been some really insightful suggestions so far and their head teacher has been incredibly supportive of the group.
Other schools in East Radnorshire are now asking for their own school committee of young carers, they want to hear their voices and value what they have to say.
Caring Arts: a partnership project in Powys between Powys Carers Service (Credu) and Arts Connection – Cyswllt Celf.
“We want to deliver a series of arts sessions for Young and Young Adult Carers living across Powys. Sessions will include art therapy which will allow those most at need to be given time to focus on themselves. It will give them time to relax and de-stress through making art and provide a space for the participants to share thoughts, feelings and stories in order to support them to process difficult and complex emotions. Other sessions will be more open and practical and will include sessions in drama, dance, music, visual arts, film making, animation and any other arts workshop they choose.”
