carers taking part in craft activitiesDo you worry what would happen to the person you care for if you were suddenly taken ill or had an accident? The Carers Emergency Card is designed for this purpose.

How does it work?

It is the size of a credit card and you carry it on you at all times. In an emergency it is a way of alerting others to the fact that there is someone else who depends on you.

The card carries the number of Powys Careline and your Carer Emergency Card number. Powys Careline is staffed round the clock, so there will always be someone available to take the call. When the finder phones up with your card number, the operator will have access to the instructions you provided on registration, and will put your emergency plan into action. (They will not share any of this information with the person who made the call.)

How to get a Carers Emergency Card

Contact us to let us know that you would like to register, and one of our local outreach workers will be in touch to compile your emergency plan with you. This includes instructions on what should be done in the event of an emergency, who to contact (whether friends, neighbours or relatives), and who would be able to take on some caring duties in your place. Once your emergency plan is completed and shared with us, you will be issued with your Carers Emergency Card.

How safe is it?

This service is confidential. No personal details are held on the card, only your Carers Emergency Card number, so all identities are protected.

Bear in mind…

It is a good idea to keep a copy of your emergency plan at home and to review it at regular intervals. If anything changes, make sure you let us know so we can update your instructions, and so Powys Careline always have access to the most up-to-date information.
